Keep My Mouth Shut
So ever since the presidency I have noticed two things....FIRST, there is a lot more hatred going around social media and the like. SECONDLY, some crazy people are coming out of the woodwork and doing unspeakable things.
As a Christian Gay man, (yes I know many of you reading this will say that is an oxymoron.) it is really hard to not speak my thoughts and feelings when someone posts a hateful or just plain downright ignorant post about "the gays" and how God doesn't want this for us and He never intended this for our lives and we are "choosing this." That we need to repent and turn from our sin; when they don't have the foggiest idea what being a gay man feels like. Just like I don't know how a transgender woman would feel because I am not one. I've learned just because someone is different from you it does not mean you have the right to tell them how to live in God's love and what God expects from them.
I believe we are here to love, listen, and help if help is requested; whether that is through prayer, or stating our opinion on a specific matter.
I believe everyone is different, because God created us different, and we all have different views on things based off our life and experiences. Just like how some people like peanut butter icecream and others like strawberry. Or how some christians think drinking is a sin, and others think only getting drunk is sinful, still others believe everything in moderation. The point is: we are MEANT to be different.
I have learned to respect people who have differing views, I understand what it is like to be in the different bubble of the world where everything is solely based off scripture. But think of this, (not to discredit the Bible in anyway) I believe there are things in the Bible that apply to the time period (biblical) and also things that apply to now. You just have to be able to tell the difference and FEEL the difference...
What do I mean by FEEL the difference? Let me explain...see, God gave us this thing called the Holy Spirit when He went back to heaven after being raised from the dead. The Holy Spirit speaks to us in our hearts and minds. We all have the choice to listen. So if we go back to the "basing our faith solely off scripture verbatim" thing, we are just reading and not really getting the deeper meaning behind scripture, (which is how God speaks; among other ways.)
Life is ultimately about learning to hear God's voice even in ways we aren't used to hearing it. He is truly all around us. Another thing God is slowly teaching me is that Christians aren't the "special ones" He speaks to everyone and anyone who will listen. We may have different ways of speaking to Him or different views on what He is, but we all can learn to hear His voice and live with love, no matter what your religious preference, whether you are male, female, white, black, latino, asian, straight, gay, bi, transgender, questioning, or whatever you are. God loves and will NEVER turn someone away.
My prayer is that people will learn not to judge people they don't understand, or just because they are scared. To just love, and if God is trying to work in their life He will make it happen in His perfect timing and mysterious way. You just need to pray for yourself for understanding, compassion and that God's will is done in that person's life, no matter what it may be.
LOVE, for GOODNESS SAKE PEOPLE JUST LOVE!
